They seem to have fixed their tooth cutting issues and the UI is really refined.

It also works very well across hardware platforms, so I can use a DDJ1000 and a Prime 4 without dealing with unnecessary proprietary software games.

Now VDJ has an advantage imo opinion because they offer a subscription free payment model and real time stem separation. This was just another wedge issue between purists and tourists at the time. IIRC VDJ was the first mainstream software to introduce the SYNC feature. To make things worse they also had cringe level skins like their 99 deck design (100 percent crash rate) and a default sample bank with the most annoying overused air horn that ever existed. The first couple times I tried it with my NS7 the jog wheel response was terrible. VDJ also used to struggle like other software with mapping motorized jog wheels.
The Virtual DJ brand was still overly visible on the UI for all of the default 'skins', so plenty of people saw that djs without decks were using VDJ. So for a few years there were a bunch of cheap/lazy/unprofessional djs playing of just a laptop with no decks in sight. The software was also heavily pirated so for a while if you looked at the laptop screen of most shitty djs you would see VDJ on the screen, so negative association was a problem for them.Īt some point the software improved to such a high level that it was good enough to use even without a controller. They started out with gaudy graphics on their UI featuring preschool looking red vs blue deck designs and their brand heavily plastered across the screen. Some of the negative rep for VDJ was well deserved because of their rough beginnings as Atomix. It works better for me on my DDJ1000 than Rekordbox.
